Hypothetical ethics/morality question....
Hypothetical Part:
Let's say Peak Oil Theory is correct, we've reached maximum oil production and the age of cheap energy is here..... Our "leaders" and political insiders know this, and have known this for awhile. They have formulated a "grand" plan of worldwide resource grabbing using our military might. (9-11, War on Terror, Iraq, Iran, etc...) Ethical/morality part: Knowing this, and knowing that continued cheap(er) energy could/would make the gradual decline and transition of our society easier to bear....a softer landing for the U.S. coupled with a harsher crash for the third world..... Would you personally support such a plan? What if I also told you that half your family would die from disease, starvation, chaos, etc...? |

Re: Hypothetical ethics/morality question....
Honestly, unless you are one of the politicians or those in charge and very popular it does not matter if you support it or not. It's done and chances are, any attempt to stop it would be met with quickly falling into disfavor. Of course if you were in a powerful and influencial position, you are indeed morally obligated to give people a chance to take care of themselves on their own. If you know and do not warn, you are directly contributing to whatever negative consequences may occur without the knowledge.
